Dont Lose Sight of Your Eye Health
January is National Eye Care Month
(Muncie, IN) January 4, 2008 In partnership with the American Academy of Ophthalmology, The Eye Center Group is proud to sponsor the month of January as National Eye Care Month. Education, early detection, and prevention are keys to preventing potentially blinding conditions of the eye.
Why are routine eye exams important?
It is extremely important to have your eyes examined on a regular basis, said Eye Center Group
ophthalmologist, Dr. Michael Scanameo. Many of the most common forms of eye disease, such as glaucoma
and cataracts, when caught in the early stages, can be successfully treated. If not caught in time, these
diseases can lead to visual loss and blindness.
The American Academy of Ophthalmology and The Eye Center Group recommend a complete medical eye examination for healthy adults every 2-4 years after age 40, more often for senior citizens, individuals with diabetes and people with risk factors for certain eye problems. Toddlers need to be checked before they start school, and all African-Americans age 20 and older should be examined for glaucoma every 3-5 years, every 2-4 years between ages 40 and 64 and every 1-2 years after age 65.
Find out more by attending our free screening.
In promoting better eye care, The Eye Center Group is offering a free eye health screening for cataracts and
glaucoma. These screenings can help detect symptoms of these conditions before your vision is seriously affected.
